Frequently Asked Questions
(FAQs)

  • Why use drones?
Drones can provide a high resolution view and perspective of an object, event, or location not previously possible without the use of conventional aircraft and do it at a much cheaper cost.
  • What is a Remote Pilot?
Remote Pilot is the term used by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for commercially certificated drone pilots.
  • What is the difference between a drone and a sUAS?
sUAS stands for small Unmanned Aircraft System and is the term that the FAA uses for small drones.
  • Are drone services expensive?
For a simple job such as taking photos or video for a real estate advertisement, Rotor's Edge charges much less than you might expect. There are external factors that could affect the price. Certain requests require more time and effort to coordinate for various safety and legal reasons. Call Rotor's Edge today and our experienced staff can provide you with more information specific to your needs.
  • Why does it matter if the drone operator is certificated by the FAA?
The FAA requires all persons conducting commercial operations with a drone to be certificated sUAS Remote Pilots. This certification shows that the drone operator has demonstrated to the FAA that he/she has the knowledge to conduct the operations in a matter that will not endanger the general public or non-participating aircraft and will be in done in compliance with applicable regulations. An operation is considered to be commercial any time a person provides any type of service using a drone (photography / videography for example) in exchange for any sort of compensation or trade. An uncertificated person might not have the knowledge to conduct the operations legally or safely. Should there be an incident causing injury or property damage, an insurance company could reject claims on the basis that the drone operator was not properly certificated.
  • Can you provide your services at my upcoming event?
Yes! We will do everything possible to provide the services you need when you need them. Please know that certain geographical areas may have varying levels of flight restrictions on them usually due to proximity to airports, utility infrastructure equipment, military installations, or crowded public events. In the case of a request for services at or near these areas, some lead time may be required for coordination with various agencies. Contact us for additional information.
  • Are your drone operations insured?
We are fully insured and will provide a certificate of insurance to our customers on request.
  • Is it difficult to become a FAA certificated Remote Pilot?
There are many resources available for those who are interested in becoming a certificated Remote Pilot. If you already have aviation experience, that will definitely give you an advantage over someone who does not. Rotor's Edge is here to help mentor / tutor those who are looking for assistance. We charge a very reasonable hourly rate for these services.
  • I have seen drones flying around my neighborhood. Are they spying on me or my neighbors?
What you likely saw was a drone being flown by a drone hobbyist flying their drone or a professional drone services company taking aerial photographs or video of real estate for commercial purposes. If you see the person operating the drone, ask them what they are doing. For safety purposes, they may ask you to wait until they have landed the drone but most drone pilots are happy to talk to you.
